Thanks to members and their guests for visiting the clubrooms over the festive season, it has been great seeing you here!
Pin Fish
Congratulations to Daniel Wilson a pin for his 95.4kg broadbill swordfish caught on 60kg line in sponsors grid Woods Turf.
Congratulations to Matt Gabelich a pin fish for his 15.56kg yellowfin tuna caught on 15kg line back in November, line testing has been done and has been ratified. This was the first pin fish the season for yellowfin tuna, nice fish on a lightish line! Well done Matt!
Junior Fisho’s
Well done to 8 yr old Elias Phillips, bringing in a whopping 14.06kg kingfish for a young boy. Awesome work Elias, caught in sponsors grid Gull Whitianga.
The Eccles brothers Rio 9yrs and Beau 6yrs had a good day on the water with dad on 6.01 with a couple of good albacores 9.8kg and 10.86kg respectively. Caught in sponsors grid Gull Whitianga. Good work boys.
1st Striped Marlin for junior Braedon Rogers too small to bring in so T/R caught in grid sponsor Sherriffs Drainage – awesome.
Good to see the kids out there!
Check out our Facebook page and Instagram to see what else has been caught and where! Our social media guru does a great job keeping us all up to date with what’s happening on the water and around the club.
FISHING REPORT
Please let us know of any interesting fishing you have done so we can share it with our members. Email info to office@mbgfc.co.nz Info for the weekly report is gathered by club members and also provided by Stackattack Charters. A big thank you to those who contribute.
Offshore
The Yellowfin Tuna continue to be caught out wide, albeit mostly small versions in the 14 – 18kg range, with the most popular grids being Woods Turf, GSD Construction, Sherriff Drainage and Richardsons Real Estate. Albacore are also being caught in good numbers.
A few Marlin are also being caught, as well as lost, during the fight. Noticeable is the lack of Skipjack Tuna being reported.
The Pacific Coast Marine and Diesel Tuna Tournament is still wide open with the leading fish being only 22.08kg. This tournament runs until the 17th Jan so still plenty of time to enter and get in the action.
If you are in need of the weighmasters, please call them on 02102562849. DO NOT TEXT THEM as texts do not come through on the weighmasters phone. You can also call the office on 07 8664121, or call “Gamebase” on VHF channel 61 and they will help arrange weighmasters.
Inshore
Reports of lots of Trevally, Kahawai and Kohe’s around Flat, Black and Danger rocks this week. The Snapper and Kingfish have been a bit hit and miss, especially in the shallows.
The divers are still getting Pack Horse Crays around the edges of the reefs. Flounder and Mullet are still in good numbers up the river.
Good Fishing.
